The Wheel is Come Full Circle: I Am Here.
I've been meaning to update my site for ages now, and this week, I finally got into gear. (I've been teaching at a summer writing program for elementary-aged kids in conjunction with the Iowa Writers' Workshop and the Iowa Youth Writing Project, and it's given me a crazy combination of simultaneous energy and exhaustion.) I was hosting my previous site through WordPress, but since it was registered under a friend's email who helped me put the site together, I didn't get the renewal notifications, and a good chunk of my content is now lost in the cyber ether. In addition, I can't reach a soul at Bluehost where my previous site was, which is why, for those of you who visited my previous site (erinmoonkelleher.com), I now have this new site: erinthemoon.com.
At first, I was super frustrated with all this, but over the past few days I've started to get excited about switching over to Squarespace. It’s far more user-friendly and intuitive (for those of you who are considering starting a website or switching from your current host, I highly recommend Squarespace). Yay! In addition to occasional blog posts (more on that below), you can also find a selection of my journalistic work, editing services, novel excerpts and short stories, and peruse the latest clothing items in my shop, Moon Closet.
On this new site, I'm going to make a hearty attempt to do blog updates that range from health and beauty stuff I've been into, open forums about writing and teaching, updates on what it's like to be a recent MFA grad looking for freelance work and more longterm teaching and writing positions, collaborations with other artists, playing with poetry, and general thoughts on what’s going on in my life.
Since I recently graduated, I'm hoping that having a new website that I'm excited about working on will hold me accountable and help me stick to the deadlines I create for myself rather than constantly putting off sitting down at the desk and getting to the damn thing.
As (King) Ernest Hemingway put it: "I was getting tired of the literary life, if this was the literary life that I was leading, and already I missed not working and I felt the death loneliness that comes at the end of every day that is wasted in your life." Forever and ever, amen.
Here I am.
